The Brief

EcoBloom is a mobile application concept designed to make recycling more accessible, accurate, and rewarding for everyday users. At its core, the app addresses a common but underacknowledged problem — recycling contamination caused by consumer uncertainty — by allowing users to scan any product barcode or packaging and instantly receive a clear, location-aware verdict on whether that item is recyclable, along with specific instructions on how and where to properly dispose of it.

Beyond utility, the app is built around a gamification system designed to sustain long-term engagement: the more a user recycles, the more their personal virtual garden grows, visually reflecting their real-world environmental impact in a tangible and emotionally resonant way. Users can also earn achievements and milestones for their recycling habits and share them with friends, introducing a social layer that transforms an individual action into a community behavior. The result is an app that meets users where they are — curious but unsure — and turns that uncertainty into habit through education, feedback, and a sense of progress that feels personal.
